This photograph was taken at the end of what was essentially an underground loop heading from Brixton up to Vauxhall and back again. The main sewer on the right of the image is the River Effra and to the left, overflow leads into a parallel storage chamber. The word Effra is derived from the Celtic word for Torrent, which is kinda close, but these days it’s more of a shit torrent.
