We’d only gone down to throw large bits of nostalgia at freight trains, so this was a rather impromptu affair.
Jodrell Bank is the Third largest steerable radio telescope. You can’t drive it to the shops nor tune into any radio (it’s not even an actual bank), but you can climb it, providing you avoid security, camera’s, shit fences and alarmed landing stages. JB is interesting, and since more than half the ladders are equipped with hatches, and various sensor alarms, your route constantly changes. Not only that, but for most of the time ones arse is perched on a steel girder no wider than 9 inches.
Sometimes you feel, even for a second, a little bit bad that you had the pleasure to dick about on something many astronomers dream of visiting one day.
